Description:
The Weihnachtsfeier simply tells the Christmas Story entirely in the German language through Scripture, German Christmas poetry, prayers, choral and congregational singing, and instrumental music. The celebration contains all the majestic beauty of a traditional German Weihnachtsfeier and is ecumenical in participation. The choral music is performed by the combined mens choirs of the Beethoven Mnnerchor (directed by Mr. David Nelson) and the San Antonio Liederkranz (directed by Dr. Thomas Ewing). Dr. David Heller, University Organist, performs on the Chapel Organ. German language students from the German Language programs at Trinity University and certain public and private high schools in San Antonio read selected German Christmas poems. German language teachers from Trinity University and certain high schools read the Scripture. Rev. John B. Culver and Mrs. Carolyn Gisler preside over the celebration. Other instrumental musicians are from Bethany Congregational Church UCC. There are no sermons. A free-will offering is taken. The Weihnachtsfeier will last no longer than 75 to 90 minutes.
