If a city is the second-largest in Texas, that’s got to be a whopper of a city in a whopper of a state. And, San Antonio is big at almost two million people. It’s ahead of the curve in many ways. The city was the first to have a modern-art museum in Texas. It’s basketball team’s name is mindful of the past and the city’s milieu, the San Antonio Spurs. (Ride ‘em, Cowboy.) The Alamo is here and it’s rightly considered a shrine. Financial services contribute to the economy of the region. So do the military bases. But, tourism is the most lucrative fun thing to talk about. There’s plenty to do. This is another town with a river walk. What’s not to enjoy on a river walk? Visit the Fairmont Hotel, which has the distinction of being one of the heaviest buildings ever moved. It only took four days to do. Amazing. The San Antonio Missions are worth looking at, too.
